A tiny set of number should be etched into the diamond on one of its edges, too small to notice on the surface, but clear enough to identify the unique stone and where it comes from. Without a valid inscription number, it could be a sign that this diamond was obtained by questionable means, whether that’s through thievery or through the blood diamond trade.
